Stuyvesant Yacht Club is a private, member-owned yacht club and is located on City Island, the gateway to Long Island Sound—convenient for residents of New York City, Westchester County, northern New Jersey, and lower Connecticut. A multi-day sail to Newport, Rhode Island with two overnight stops on the Connecticut shore. While in Newport we’ll tour the mansions and amble along the cliff walk.
We’ll stay in Newport for about three days. Then we’ll make our return trip along the Long Island shore with about two overnight stops.

TRANSIENTS

Last Stop Before Hell Gate Cruising south? Beware currents at the infamous Hell Gate on the East River. Why not turn a tedious wait for a favorable high tide into a terrific diversion at SYC? We would be delighted to host you as our guest. Call 718-885-1023 or email moorings@stuyvesantyc.org to reserve a mooring or for additional information. Our launch operators also monitor channel 72 on the VHF radio.

Gateway To Long Island Sound And Points EastYou may be coming from the south and have transited New York Harbor, the East River and Hell Gate and are looking for a resting place before heading out east. SYC offers a perfect place to stop before cruising to the great harbors in Long Island Sound, Block Island Sound and Fisher’s Island Sound. Take advantage of our great restaurants on the island or re-provision your boat for a longer cruise.

Moorings & Services

Our Location: 40°50’42″N 73°47’28″W We encourage you to take advantage of our available services, such as a 15-ton travel lift, good for vessels of up to about 42 feet LOA with moorings in Eastchester Bay. Dinghy racks are available.

Moorings are available to guests of Club members and to members of reciprocating and other yacht clubs. Guest moorings are available during our sailing season (May to October). To reserve a guest mooring, call the office at 718-885-1023.

Amenities

There is a sailing school and local racing throughout the spring, summer and fall. Numerous cruising and social activities. Wonderful sunsets, a casual environment and reasonable rates ($25 per night or $100 per week). Block and cubed ice / Hot showers / Free Wi-Fi. Laundry facilities are nearby.

Our fine, air-conditioned restaurant and bar, and our open-air veranda, offer magnificent, panoramic views of the New York City skyline and are open for lunch, dinner and drinks.

Area Interests

On City Island itself is the City Island Historical Society and Nautical Museum.
It is an easy walking distance to groceries, hardware stores, marine suppliers, and public transportation to Manhattan.
Via bus or taxi are: The Bronx Zoo / The NY Botanical Garden / Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum and subway service to New York City.

Learn to Sail

Club Boat

This program allows you access to a boat, but without the responsibility of ownership. Perhaps you are keen to gain experience or are between boats. Maybe you'd just like to meet and sail with new companions. Whatever the reason, this is an attractive option at a nominal cost.

Kayaking / Dry Sailing

There are many options with boats large and small. Want a little more contact with the water and some cardio workout? Kayaking is the real deal on a hot summer day. Kayak storage is available for Associate Members. For those drysailing aficionados, our travel lift can accommodate.

RESTAURANT

Stuyvesant Yacht Club Restaurant Our restaurant is great place to enjoy good fresh cuisine in our dining room or have a drink at our nautical themed bar while enjoying panoramic views overlooking Eastchester Bay and New York City’s Skyline. And you are in for a treat with some of the best sunsets. During the warmer weather you can enjoy eating or having a drink on our deck area.

Special Occasions

Thinking of having an event? Our club can provide the perfect setting for your affair. The room can accommodate up to 80 people comfortably with ample room to dance, or move around freely. Launch

SYC provides a launch service with mooring in Eastchester Bay. Proud of its 15-ton travel lift, it is good for vessels of up to about 42 feet LOA. Dinghy racks also present.

Electric and water service is available throughout the yard. SYC has a crane for assisting in mast removal and replacement.

There is winter storage for boats on site (sailboats are not required to drop their masts).

MEMBERSHIP

Yes, it has its privileges.SYC club membership is offered to those with an interest and a passion for yachting and related social activities. SYC offers several types of membership and it is not necessary to be a boat owner to join.

Regular (Active)

One who owns a boat. This membership entitles one to all privileges of membership, use of club facilities and the right to vote.

Junior

Same as a Regular member, but is limited to an individual who has not reached the age of 24 by December 31st of the year in which the individual applies for membership.

Associate Sailor

A member who does not own a boat and wishes to enjoy the use of the boats owned by the club.

Associate (Social)

A member who does not own a boat and wishes to enjoy the club socially.

Life Member:

A member who has maintained continuous membership in the SYC as a Regular member for 30 years.

Those who do not own a boat may join as an Associate Member or a Sailing Associate. Other members who have boats regularly invite associate/sailing associate members on cruising and racing events during the sailing season. Boat owners join as a Regular Member or a Junior Member. The club is reliant for its welfare and successful operation on the support and assistance of its members and their guests. It is requested that everyone follow all House and Yard Rules at all times. SYC is a member-run club; each member pitches in at scheduled work parties to keep SYC in good running order. We also encourage members to join and serve on one of the club’s several committees and to attend quarterly General Membership meetings. Located near the entrance to Long Island Sound, with an anchorage sheltered between City Island and the Throgs Neck.

When approaching the southern end of City Island, be aware of Big Tom, a barely submerged rock approximately 1/4 mile to the WSW of the southern tip of the island at location 40°50'4"N 73°47'24"W. It is inside a triangle consisting of a lighted red buoy (1st one as you come into Eastchester Bay), an unlit red buoy (R"4" just to its west), and an unlit white buoy on the inshore side.
